We tried something new this year
and believe it gave the rinks a tremendous boost. We
had a mailing with Valpak coupons offering free
skating and lessons sent to 200,000 homes
(approximately 20,000 per rink) and listed the
participating rinks with their dates and times. This
coupon was good for the entire family. The money for
this project with the rinks and the Cleveland Skating
Office was paid for with funds from Cleveland
Championships 2000. Our rinks reported between 200 and
1000 skaters with the average being 350, or as one
Basic Skills director put it "we had about a
billion people". The sign-ups for the Basic
Skills classes were huge thanks to USFSA and National
Skating Week. Everyone is looking forward to doing
this again next year. The facilities come up with new
ideas every year and we can't wait to share the new
ideas for 2004.
The Cleveland Skating Office and our Learn-To-Skate
committee would like to thank not only the Cleveland
Championships 2000 Trustees but also all of the clubs
that participated this year: Brooklyn FSC, Euclid
Blade & Edge, Garfield Hts. FSC, Mentor FSC,
Pavilion SC, Shaker FSC, Strongsville SC, West Shore
FSC and Winterhurst FSC. We also want to thank our
area coaches that so graciously gave of their time to
help promote skating in Cleveland. |
